I was having problems with my desktop, so I reinstalled windows 7.....but since doing so it refuses to update any fixes etec......So I reinstall once again and once more windows update refuses to update....any ideas you computer buffs out there?

Are you using you desktop now to post on TP?

If not check that your network drivers have been installed to allow you access to the internet

If none of the above apply cancel the current download and re-boot the PC, then start to download just 4 or 5 at a time, if that doesn't work do the same again but try downloading just 1 at a time

Do you have a Microsoft account or when you log in do you use a local login?

I had a problem with updating on Windows 10 and it seemed to be due to my windows account. I reset my computer and switched to a local login account on the advice of a helpline (PC World).

This resolved it for me but, the problem may not have been the same one.

On the internet no problem.....won't even let me download one at a time

Anti virus installed and on?

If so close all browsers and email clients, turn off your anti virus and try the downloads again, just a few at a time

Is your Windows Install properly activated? Press and hold the Windows key and then press pause/break. A window should open and at the bottom your current activation status should be displayed.

Have you opened Windows Updates and clicked the "Check For Updates" button? It may be disabled, in which case Windows Update isn't yet configured and you can go through the steps to configure it. Otherwise, click the button and let us know what happens. If it fails, it should give a return code/error message which will be helpful in starting to diagnose the problem.

First of all how did you delete the original windows 7? My guess the original W7 was on drive "C" on your computer. you can't format the drive "C" if you are using it. So my guess is you are trying to overwrite W7 on top of the original W7 which means you would have 2 copies of windows7 on the same "C2".drive. This may cause conflict which could be the problem. You could try as I said earlier do a system restore to see if that helps.
Maybe this is the chance to install a SSD drive anyway in place of what you have.
Of course this would mean reinstating all files including printers etc so make a copy first.

I bought System Mechanic to sort out any problems, it is far better than a lot of cheap programs And I think well worth getting. As it is a PROPER engineering fault finder a little care may be needed.
Even optimize SSD drives which most don't do the ony Defragment ordinary hard dives which should not be used if you have an SSD drive

Below a picture showing my computer being done

You could try clearing the software download folder (look within c:/windows) then from an elivated command prompt type:

wuauclt.exe /detectnow

You certainly shouldn't need any third party gumph after a fresh build.

Take your point but is it a fresh build? The OP doesn't said what he did to wipe the hard drive. I tried doing it when I had a problem I couldn't fix. The drive "C" also has drive "D" built in as a system reserve as well. It is not like the old windows 95/98 where you could do it this, windows 7 has this safety built in to stop the formatting.

If you had a spare empty drive in say drive "F" then you could put the new window 7 in there and use drive "F" to run the computer on and then you would be able to format drive " C" after copy/past everything over being used
Anyway that is my laymans thoughts and how I would go about it. More than likely wrong anyway but worth thinking about
As AZZ is a computer expert maybe ask him what he would do

I sure can...everything functions properly with the exception of window updates....just reformatted and a clean update requested....no joy.....

Real - Not sure i get what you're suggesting. Windows doesn't create any lettered partitions unless you ask it to (or use a supplied restore disk supplied by hardware vendor).

Granted we can't confirm if the op used the disk/partition setup part of the 7 installer to delete the existing partitions. Trying to remember back but a tell tell should be the existence of a windows.old folder along with the normal windows folder.

Windows activation would be a good start, but windows updates has a set of defaults that don't really need changing.

The symptoms in my experience sound like a duff update. The software download folder is a 30 second job to try so IMO worth a bash.

Activated and check for updates requested
