Every time my wife opens up the internet on her laptop, her homepage is overridden by another site. (site is something to do with antivirus software) I've tried altering the homepage but can't get rid of it. I've tried system restore to the earliest possible date (only had it since end of December) but this doesn't cure the problem either. Their is a tab on the toolbar for changing or removing homepages but the one we want to get rid of is never listed.
My wife was running Norton which hadn't detected or done anything about a trojan virus on the computer. I've downloaded avg free and that detected and healed the virus within seconds of completing the download.
I've a sneaky suspicion that the homepage we keep getting is something to do with the trojan virus. avg free is currently scanning the whole system for any more viruses but does anybody have any other ideas on how to block this website homepage from overiding the designated homepage. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Yeah, I'd go with a virus/Trojan is actually bringing up that page.

... Don't know the answer directly, but I'd clear all cookies, my cache, history, my java cache etc.

Then if that didn't work I'd download Ad-aware SE personal, run it, that in conjunction with my permanent anti-virus AVG usually clears the crap.... I uninstall Ad-aware afterwards because it possibly conflicts with AVG long term.

Too slow. lol...

I had something like this about 6 months ago .. Forget how I got rid of it.

It wanted me to pay money for a program. (To get rid of its own damn virus)

Search google for the answer and remember to switch off your system restore when deleting it. (Remember to switch it back on again though)

Its a browser hijack, and they're very common.

Try HijackThis but be careful as it gives you the potential to cause colossal damage to your OS if you delete something you shouldn't. Read the documentation and you should be fine.

You can also try CCleaner, from Microsoft.

Spybot is usually pretty good. If Spybot and AdAware can't shift it, then you're probably going to have to reinstall - be sure not to do any internet banking until then!

Thanks for all you kind help and suggestions. Spybot cured it.

I had the same thing a couple of months ago on my PC ...... after doing some research (GOOGLE) i found out that it was actually a browser hijack and that the program offered was actually a virus and you rightly said they want you to pay for it so that no.1 your outta pocket and no.2 you d/l a nasty virus

I upgraded to XP PRO and "touch wood" havent seen or heard of it since :D :D
