Afternoon all

Just bought my first film camera.

I am wondering between film stocks, and where I can get them processed (ideally locally).

Im not looking for the differences between slide film and print film, but would like to know if the likes of Max Spielman can print both kinds? Or would you recommend anywhere else?

Any help at all much appreciated!

Hi Nick..at first we always recommend Poundland Agfa Vista and developed and only scanned to CD (no prints) for £3 at Asda super store..then you can go from there if you like.

Max Spielmann will do E6/slide film, but like pretty much everywhere these days I imagine, they send them off to a central lab for processing.

Why deal with a place that sends it away when you can send it away yourself?
Just doesn't make sense to me.

Yep, no point in my opinion. Send them to a proper lab and get a proper result.

Max Spielmann will develop and scan to CD (they tend not to recognise the word "scan" but do understand CD!). Best ignore their prints, get the CD, and load it into your favourite photo asset manager. They will charge you an extra £1 for the CD (last time I used them, develop was about £5 per roll, dearer than Asda... if you can find one of the latter that will do it on-site). The results may well strike you as over-sharpened, and will only be at 1200 dpi, giving you around 2 mp for a 35mm frame. The thread that @RaglanSurf pointed you to above will link to processors that will do a much more professional job. For C41 film I like Photo Express in Hull, good quality, fast turnround, medium scan at 2000 dpi (around 6 mp). Remember the 50p per film discount for TP members!
