Have decided to try and get into photography more, i currently have a point and shoot fuji f70 exr but i`ve started to look at dslr`s and have noticed the nikon d40 is in my current price range..

My main hobby/addiction is cars and specifically vw and currently have a corrado storm and would love to tie the two hobbies together..

So feed back on a good starter camera would be great.

Welcome to TP, Andy. The basic advice to anyone wondering which camera body to buy is always the same: go down to the nearest Jessops, Jacobs or other local pusher and fondle some of the stock. There's very little difference between most manufacturers consumer DSLRs nowadays but which camera has the best handling is very much a subjective issue.

Canon and Nikon offer the largest range of lenses and other accessories but Sony are snapping at their heels.
