So I want to start myself up in the world of photography.

I have been recommended this forum by a few people. I want some advice on what kind of camera and equipment is best to get started with?

My absolute limit is £350, but ideally I'd want to spend less than £300. I would also rather buy second hand as I guess I'd get more for my money that way?

I'm sure this is asked a lot for apologies for that.

And hopefully I'll enjoy my stay!

Dan.

Depends on what sort of photography you want to do..Some cameras and lens are best for one type and not for another....

For £300-£350 you have quite a bit of choice. From a new SOny ALpha 230 (lens kit) or Nikon 3000 (body only) or if you want to go 2nd hand Sony Alpha 100/200 or various Canons 20D/30D.

If you can get out and handle a few of them.

welcome !!

have a read through "this" thread

buy a used DSLR and add lens as you find the need....good luck

have a read through the Classifieds too

but ideally I'd want to spend less than £300. Dan.

Nikon D40 .......review by Ken Rockwell "here"

with kit lens 18-55mm AF-S....an excellent lens !

about £250 used

Ideally I'd love a camera that is compatible with Aperture's tether feature.
not sure what this is...

you could bid on the ones listed at £220 - 249 on eBay
personally I've never had success bidding and gave up

anyway £300 for a D40X is average BUT does have a tripod and bag [of unknown quality]

if you can bide your time - perhaps browse the used camera shops online
I'll have a look round my favorites this evening

or wait to see a suitable one in TP Classified ?

good hunting........

review by Ken Rockwell says

""The D40x was announced March 5, 2007 and discontinued in January 2008. It is replaced in 2008 by the almost identical D60.

Save your money and get the D40, which I find to be superior, even for hundreds of dollars less, because the D40 has faster sync speed and double the light sensitivity in normal use (ISO 200 base vs. ISO 100 base.) ""

FOR THE MODS...................................................

am I allowed to link PSPDan through to a commercial camera shop such as MPB photographic ??

never done before so...?

.

you dont wish to wait for a D40..........

there's a D40x BODY for sale in the Classified's for £150...."here"

then add a Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 GII AF-S DX - excellent lens
on sale at Peter Walnes "here" for £63 mint +pp = about total £220......
not VR but shouldn't matter at these focal lengths

leaving cash for SB400 flash [used £70] and tripod etc

later add a 55-200mm VR about £130
cheers
