Compatible Inks

Looking for some advice on Compatible Inks. I have an Epson Photo 950 which was a top end printer and highly recommended in its day but doesn't seem to be widely used. I have had it for a good many years now and always bought Epson Inks. I only produce a handful of prints and although I have now decided to have a lab do them I do need the flexibility of a printer to hand.

I will no longer pay £20 per cartridge (the 950 has 6) and I would like to try compatible inks. I have looked at some suppliers recommended elsewhere on this site but they dont supply for my particular printer.

Suggestions would be welcome.

It's highly unlikely that any compatible cartridges are made for old printers nowadays so why not get a chip resetter for the cartridges you have (lots on fleabay) and just buy the ink from places such as Inktec(Google for address) and refil them with a syringe.

there are plenty of 3rd party carts for older printers - I use them in an epson 890 photo in the lab office

Many thanks to all of you. Am I likely to have problems with the non OEM cartridges "not being recognized" by the printer?

I have stopped using compatible cartridges with my printer as I've been getting a lot of trouble with them lately. I've tried 3 or 4 different suppliers and they've all caused issues. Some have given the not recognised problem, some have effectively dried up, the printer heads seem to get clogged more quickly and need cleaning before every use.
My printer is quite old now and never used to have these issues with compatibles when it was new, but now I've got to look at the chip resetter or look for a new printer as its becoming quite hard to get the correct inks at a sensible price now.

I have now tried the Jet Tec compatibles which I cant get to work. My problem arose when I had to remove the Epson Cartridges and use Magic Bullet to clear a blockage. I replaced the originals and two cartridges had red crosses on and the remaining 5 were greyed out. I decided to try compatibles but having tried one this gives a red cross on 6 of the 7 cartridges, if I replace the original Epson it goes back to 2 crossed out. So - I tried replacing another with a new Epson Cartridge on the other and this still registers a red cross.

I am stumped now, Epson suggest cleaning contacts which I have done so do I now dump my 950??
