Hi all,

I am staring a new job contracting and have been advised i need to set up a limited company.

I need to come up with a company name pronto, but am struggling to find a decent name. Im a project planner / project manager.

Any ideas?

Ideally i would like to be able to register the .com and .co.uk domain names in case the company grows, though initially it is just little old me!

It's a very personal thing but I'e always preferred abstract names which don't have a specific meaning. For example, I've used a variation on a Greek letter in the past - the domains were available and its style fitted what I was doing at the time. Going for something like "Dave Smith Project Management Ltd" might be fine if that tends to be the norm in your industry but can be a hindrance if you ever decide to change direction or get involved in areas unrelated to project management. I've also based the style of a company name on companies I've liked the "brand" of in other industries but again it's all down to personal choice.

A couple of things to bear in mind though. Your trading name doesn't have to be the same as the underlying limited company name. And check availability of the domains first as these disappear quicker than the names registered at Companies House.

Rapscallion Project Management.

now i did think that, but the definition of rapscallion is
a mischievous person.

Probably not the best quality!!

An abstract (ish..) name is exactly what i was wanting. You never know what the future will hold.
SO far ive been looking at greek gods, colours, greek alphabet as you suggested, various terminology words in project management (eg precedent, control, scope, arrow, critical) and other miscellaneous list. Cant see the wood for the trees so off for a drive now

How about a Welsh or Celtic god? there's loads of them to choose from :)

I just made an anagram of rapscallion and came up with 'Carnal spoil'.... I don't see that working too well, but then again......
