Compacts that perform well in lowlight....

You'll be lucky compacts are usually dreadful becasue of their small sensors and marketing hyped high mega pixel counts.

One of the best was the Fuji F31fd - it was discontinued a while ago so you are looking at S/H if you can find it. Unfortunately the reputation is so good that if one comes available it goes for a high price.

Good luck in your search especially if you want aperture / shutter priority.
 
I brought my wife a fuji F31FD since it had a great high ISO performance for indoor shots. It very similar to the Fuji F30 just that 31FD was a minor upgrade having face detection which surprisingly works quite well.
