I managed to put my *full* 8GB compact flash card through the washing machine recently. When I first tried to rescue the data I managed to get 3 of the 370 images off it. Since then I cannot access the card at all - I/O error.

So, anybody got any ideas, short of mystical enchantments on how to save my photos...?

Cheers,
Greg.

Most likely the contacts are corroded. Maybe try inserting and removing it in a card reader quite a few times to see if the contacts rub clean and start working.

My mobile got wet a few weeks ago. It was suggested to leave it in the airing cupboard for a few days or put in a bowl of dried rice. After a week the airing cupboard worked. Maybe worth a try.

Not sure anything would get corroded that quickly? I once dropped a CF card in a lake and once dried out it was fine again. I'd have though more likely some moisture still left inside is causing the problem. How long has it been since it happened?

I've heard about the rice trick before too - supposedly draws out the moisture. But I guess if you shake out any excess water if you've not already done so & just leave it with the pin slots facing downwards it should dry out pretty quickly.

In this weather you could even put it outside as long as not indirect sunlight and get it in if it rains ;)

The rice trick does work, but it should be in a sealed container with the card.

The OP's comment suggest to me that it was not fully dry and the electricity has gone the wrong way around it and caused a smoke leak.
