Id like to know what are the various opinions of the different manufacturers of compact flash, which are good and which not so good, and most importantly, where are the best deals.

At present, I have only got 2 x Toshiba 2gb. I know Scandisk seems popular with you guys.

Sandisk very good

Kingston not so good (by popular opinion)

The price of CF card is so low nowadays I see no reason not to buy the best out there, which most people would say are the Sandisk Extreme III range.

Now saying that I have had no problems with the Fujifilm CF card I got with my camera nearly 3 years ago.

As for card size, I think that is more of a personal thing.

I have a 4GB card and a 2GB card the rest are all 1GB cards, if is an important shoot I use the 1GB cards as I would not like to shoot all day on 1 huge card and that fail losing all my shots, so splitting them up on several 1GB cards feels the safer bet.

If I'm out just for fun I use the 4GB and just click away

Sandisk & Lexar
Transcend a bit cheaper but seem to do the job fine.

AH! NOOO!
THE DREADED SANDISK/SCANDISK MISUNDERSTANDING!

;)
It's Sandisk, without a C :)

Lexar and Sandisk are the 2 best ones, but if you keep your card clean by formatting it regularly, most cards are fine.

I have both Sandisk and Kingston in 4.0gb and in 2.0gb, and to be honest , in my opinion, there is very little difference between the two makes! Niether has let me down yet, (well, a 1gb Kingston did about 12 months ago, but 7dayshop.com replaced it no problems) I have used them regularly for around 12 months in a 350d and Nikon P&S. So if you want my opinion for what it is worth, whichever make has the best deal on the day, go for it!

I have a photographic memory that was never developed

I have a mix of Sandisk ExIII's and MyMemory own-brand cards. Don't notice any difference to be honest...

Pretec claim a lot, then admit they're not up to spec.

Avoid buying SanDisk from eBay: reputable online sellers should be cheaper/as cheap, and with minimal risk of supplying a fake.

Thanks guys.

Decision made, Sandisk (without a C) and not from Ebay. :)

Going to Focus... Probably good prices there

If you speak to Andy Rouse, he'll tell you that they're all made in the same factory anyway!! Just marketed by different companies. Most will write faster than any camera buffer anyway!
