I have used the search but cant really find what i'm looking for.

Its my birthday next week (:woot:) So I think I want a small, half decent compact as the D200 doesnt quite fit in my pocket. I could talk about SLR's all day but compacts are in another league, one i'm not to familiar with!

Can anyone recomemend one for around the £150.00ish mark? Is anyone aware of any deals worth looking at?

Thanks :)

I am a real fan of the Canon Ixus. I have an old Ixus 40 that takes cracking shots and have just bought my Mrs an Ixus 85.

Very small and neat and takes a cracking shot. It just doesn't have much in the way of manual controls like say the Canon G9. The Ixus 75 should come in at your budget, the 85 is just over.

:agree:

I love the IXUS, look stylish and small and neat. Old boss in London had a 3MP one which took better shots than my Samsung 7MP (the one with the schneider optics as well!!!). :)

I replaced my Ixus with a G9 both cracking camers but i wanted the manual controls of the G9 and the abilty to shoot RAW regardless of what camera. But the ixus rocks mine took fantasic pics on auto :) and you do have some exposure control. I would say if you have to stick to your budget get an ixus if the budget is felxable get a G9 :D

Another vote for the Canon G9. I'm really impressed with it for a compact, - and I'm a Nikon man!
But, it's £275 cheapest I've seen. Heard good things about the Panasonic Lumix range, they have Leica lenses and are a fair bit cheaper too...

If you can stretch to £200 then Amazon can sell you a Sony W300 which has a 13.6 megapix image and more settings than you can ever hope to understand. It's the only camera I am using at present and I like a lot of the images and the quality that I get.

Recently got the panasonic lumix TZ5..cracking little camera..

Hi R8JimBob88,
I got this for the other half not long ago and it is a cracking camera.
Should fit the bill (no pun intended)
