Greetings.
I used to be a member on here long ago but I expect my original account was deleted.

I'm looking for help in finding a suitable compact camera with interchangeable lenses. Something similar of a Lumix s9 series size spec. However I understand this/these cameras has focus stacking built in which isn't ideal for macro photography. It doesn't have to be a newer model but would prefer to be buying new.! I fully understand A M P S settings ect. I don't use any auto functions. Price wise below £1500. Thanks for any help.

If you like the spec why not the S9? Having said that I don't understand your comment about focus stacking, maybe you could clarify what you mean? Do you want focus stacking built in or not?

Is the Sony A7cII suitable? FF, RF style and quite compact with a 33mp sensor. Grey import should be well under £1,500. Actually Amazon have them under £1,500, just.

Thank you for replying. As I understand it the s9 has technology where it's not possible to set depth of field in the macro. It takes a series of shots at different dof then combines them into what it thinks is correct. So you just get a mash of multiple photos.

  • The camera shoots a sequence of images of the same scene, automatically shifting the focus point slightly between each shot. This process is done in-camera.
    • Merging: The S9 then automatically merges the sharpest areas from all the individual frames into a single, high-resolution final image.

I love mine, I bought mine as soon as Nikon released the black version, it's been sitting in my cupboard until a few months ago, ended up taking it to Gran Canaria, absolutely loved using it, I took the 28mm LE, 50-250 and the 12-28 DX lenses, the 12-28 actually stayed on the camera all holiday, I'm actually thinking of selling the Z50 now

Thank you for the feedback. I like the old style dial's very much. Should be good enough with VR lenses.
