Ok the mrs wants a new Compact camera and does not like the Panasonic LX5 ive been using so that LX5 is going since I am happy with my lovely OMD :)

What compact shall i get her in the price range of £150 - £200 could stretch if possible if meaning getting a better picture quality..

X10 she said too big.

I love to get the Sony but too pricey

Hi, I have just bought my wife a Sony dsc hx-20v! It was £250 in jessops but picked it up off of amazon for £230 + you get £40 cashback!!

That is one of the ones I just been reading up on. Is it that good?

I've been doing a lot of reading on compacts lately and considered the following:

Sony RX100 - Looks good but too expensive
Sony HX-20V - Great images and features, however I know I'll crop and I don't like the watercolour style when I zoomed in (check some on flickr)
Canon S110 - Again looked good but I wasn't sure about images
Panasonic LX7 - Ticks all the boxes bar for I would have liked GPS and more zoom, but this is the one I'm going for - less that £260 imported

Went to shops a little while back.....

RX100 - Nice IQ, doesnt handle great without a grip, hesitation when changing aperture, sloooow at the long end, poor MFD.

LX7 - Best handling, lots of nice manual controls, fast lens, smaller sensor.

X10 - Nice handling, zoom ring instead of flappy thing, smaller sensor.

Small and very good image quality, has to be the Ricoh GRD. There are plenty of second hand examples on eBay

What about the Olympus XZ-1, nice fast lens, Good Image quality and its great at Macro

Couldn't tell you yet as I've not given it to her! But from the test shots that I took in the shop against other cameras of the same price, the Sony looked the better quality!!
