I'm looking for a "pocket camera" for the kids to take on holiday (300D is too large dad :bonk:").

Spec required is "wide angle", 3x optical zoom, SD or CF storage , small as possible & no more than £250

I've found the Canon Ixus 860 & the Panasonic FX33 which fit the bill quite nicely but neither has a viewfinder, you've got to use the LCD

Can anybody point & shoot ;) me at any more candidates for my money

thanks

Brian

I have just bought a Sony W300 which retails on Amazon for £199, I think, You'll need a memory card, I paid £34 for a 4Gbye card in Dixons - or whatever it's called today.

It has a viewfinder, 3x optical zoom and 13.6 megapixels per shot. Have a look at my Switching to Sony - My Wife's Garden thread for some examples.

Canon G9 is you can stretch to £277 and the wide angle is 35mm but a great camera.

1st post by the way. :-)

Thanks for the pointers , I'm hoping that I can get a 28mm (equiv) with a viewfinder, the extra few mm can make quite a difference (at least that's what I've been told )

Canon a720 IS. 6x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD, manual over rides for you, v good IQ, AA batteries, SD card, its not as compact as the Ixus range but not as big as the G9 priced around £120-150 gets good reviews as well.

The G9 is a lovley camera!!!

That said, I got the wife a FX33 for xmas to use when she is out and about with our son - and it is a great camera - despite not having a viewfinder !

Anth.
