Hello all,

I haven't been doing much photography (other than on my smartphone) for years, so hello again! I currently do a lot of cycling and over the past 3 years I've started taking up cycle touring. I'm planning to do the North Coast 500 later this year, when it's a bit warmer of course. I've currently got an aging Sony NEX 3 as my smallest camera which I did try taking on a trip last year, but the thought of having to switch between the prime I had and the kit lens put me off. Yeah, I know - lazy! For this year I've invested in a Canon GX7 MkII. It's such a small, light yet well built little thing! I can't wait to use it on my adventures and hopefully rekindle some of my enjoyment of photography.

I've got a really tiny gorillapod that just about holds the camera up, but I'm pondering getting something else...the lighter the better. So what would you suggest, a little tripod or a more modern gorillapod? The gorillapod I already have is one of their earliest models I think, it's super light but also not very stable at all when doing long exposures. Thanks :)

I've had an Ultrapod 2 for at least 15 years so it's a well established piece of kit.
Have a look at this thread for an alternative.

I had a long look at these options a year or so ago. I wanted a tripod for backpacking with m4/3 cameras. I wasn’t massively keen on something restricted to table tops.

I ended up with a velbon UT-3AR

Weight is about 700g inc. ball head and you can extend it to 1.4m. Think they’re about £60. I’ve found it fantastic. Well worth a look.
