Compact camera for Oz trip

Afternoon all.

I’ve posted a separate question about camera insurance - at the moment my wife is undecided whether to take my Sony A73 with a Samyang 35mm on her forthcoming trip or to buy a compact. If the latter, then I strongly suspect that when she returned from the trip it would need to be sold to prevent sitting in a cupboard.

I’ve not been into my photography for quite some time - sadly - and whereas I was previously quite well up with what kit is available, I feel hopelessly out of touch now.

Straightforward question really. If you were planning on buying a compact and your main (principal) aim was to take quality photos of your new born grandson (without resorting to flash), what compact would you choose/should we be looking for? One criteria for selection would be it has to be better than the usual mobile phone cameras.

We’ve previously owned a Canon S120 and Sony RX100 mk3 - sadly neither are still with us.

Absolute max budget would be say £500, but I’d prefer to be closer to £300.

thanks

I undertook a 1 month trip to Oz, with a stop-off at HK, with just a Fuji X100 and WCL. I never really missed having anything longer, and the liberation of not having to choose and change lenses was most refreshing.

Sell the A7iii and buy the A7c. Keep your current small prime and may be add another like samyang 75mm/1.8.
Without flash, FF with fast lenses is what I'd use especially if I plan on shooting indoors too.

I agree. I have taken the X100 (various ones) as sole camera and its been so easy. Great images too.
