Hi all,

Not a price bracket I'm too familiar with but i'm after a good compact camera for the girlfriend's birthday and need some advice on what's out there.

So far I've looked at the Sony DSC-WX220, Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ10 and Canon IXUS 275. All seem pretty decent and have the standard WiFi, NFC features etc.

Is there anything else out there I should look at? Can't really go into the second hand market either.

Guess it was probably the wrong place to ask on here then :)

Probably just pickd the wrong day to ask, everyone was preoccupied with another issue.

TBH much of a muchnes in that price bracket.. not a lot of difference between anything offered by Panasonc, Fuji, Nikon, Canon, Sony or Olympus - and that's probably the order I'd consider the manufacturers in. Just be aware and check the online manuals to see if there are any crippled "feature" modes - a neighbour got caught out by an Olympus TG and the panorama function that only saves as a 720p high image which is a bit s*** for printing, and some Sonys have really aggresive noise reduction that can't be turned off.

If you could stretch your budget up to 220, Camera Centre UK (a genuine shop in Wales) have Sont RX100 official refurbished which come in original box with accessories and Sony 12 month warranty but only have 1 left I think. It's a bit more than your budget but one of the best compacts at the price.

Yeah, not sure what that would have been :).

Thanks for the tips. I had read that about the Sony's so need to check which models it affects. My preference has always been towards panasonic in the sightly higher price range than this so will probably end up going for that one.

I can't find the RX100 on their website so assuming it's now gone, especially at that price!

I'm very tempted to grab one as well. As stupid as it sounds even in my own head though, it doesn't have wifi or some of the features of the newer models, which wouldn't bother me but i imagine the missus would really use them.

It didn't really bother me as its just to put in my pocket when I'm out and about as I've got DSLR kit which is my main one but if she needs wifi, I guess this isn't the one. Some of the Panasonics, TZ 60 & 70 models from memory are a similar price and do have it. They're older models as well so may get a deal somewhere.

It wouldn't me either. That's why it's always harder shopping for someone who isn't as into photography as all of us really. Will see if i can find one of those panasonic's. Thanks for the tips anyway.

No problem, it's a minefield out there with so many models to choose from. I almost went for the Panny LX100 as I found a refurb one at the Panny outlet store for £349 but bottled it when I saw the Sony at a great price. I had a quick look there for you but they've only got the TZ80 at £299 which is way over your original budget.
Good luck anyway, I'm sure you'll get something sorted.
