Im now on the lookout for a compact Camera or Camcorder that will do best of both worlds, HD video as well as taking good photos, this can be a dedicated camcorder that also takes good photos or a dedicated camera that also takes good video, it dont really matter as long as it can do both with half decent results and its compact as taking out my 600D is not always an option...
my budget is around the £250 quid mark but could go a little higher for to get the right one..

any suggestions will be appreciated
thanks.

I'm looking for the same for music gigs etc.

I've sort of narrowed it down to the Panasonic DMC-FZ150 Or the Panasonic Lumix TZ30.

The FZ150 might be out of your price range, but the TZ30 Might be worth a look

thanks scott ive just taken a look at the TZ30 and now added it to my list of possible point n shoot cameras, ive also been looking at the Coolpix S9300 & Sony Cybershot HX20V & maybe even push towards a PowerShot G12 to keep in with canon.. but that didnt have a very good review for taking video...

anyhow if anyone else has any views on this id like to hear them..

thanks again.

Also now added this to my list Olympus SZ-31MR which looks a cracking point n shoot for the money.. anyone got any views on this one..?

thanks again.

Hi mate,

I recently obtained the hx20v and can say confidently: it's the best out there for your budget and your requirements.

Video is fantastic quality throughout it's 28-500mm zoom range and it records at 50fps in full HD which not many cameras do.

The stills are great along with the controls.

One of the best features is that whilst filming in 1080i, you can record a still at the set time.

The 10fps at full resolution came in very handy when shooting at my.nieces sports day and D7000's 6fps couldn't keep up with the pace.

I'll be using it as my main video camera for a wedding video i'm shooting in 3 Weeks - that's how confident I am of it's abilities!

So my vote is for the Sony hx20v.

Let me know if you want any examples posted, video / stills.

Oh and I don't just take clips here and there - I am heavily into video production, more so than stills these days!

Thank you Phil for your info, i do like the Sony hx20v very much & have seen some good youtube clips with it and like you i also tend to do more video with my dslr these days than i take photos.. so up to now thats prob tops on the list of which to buy..

im giving myself 1 week from today to make up my mind & then im deffo going to buy one or i will be looking around forever n a day LOL...

thanks again for all your help n info..
cheerz.

Hmm, I'm going to add the Sony to my list too, it does look a very good camera.

Yes your right about the G12, not very good video, I know on my G7 the sound and video were good for gigs, but i bought a G10 and they changed something, video wasnt as good, and the sound just recorded a buzzing noise.

So looks like it's the Sony HX20Z, Panasonic TZ30 or possibly Panasonic FZ150 for me.

be interesting to see what your choice is!
