Compact camera £150 budget!

Merry Christmas to everyone! Hope Santa was kind to you!

Ive decided to buy a compact camera for when just out and about as my phone is ok (htc desire) but when at football matches my dslr is a tad but too chunky to take with me (I also can't enjoy the game as much as I'm to busy keeping my eye on my camera!)
So with the sales set to start / started today online I'm looking at buying an advanced compact digital camera. I'd like 10x optical zoom at least. I've looked at the Nikon s8000 I think which looks ok but are there any other ideas you can offer?

Look about second hand - there was an LX5 on a motorcycle forum that I frequent for £220 recently.....

You could get a Canon S90 for that quite easily (and a S95 for just a tad more...)

Another vote for the S90, it's a few years old now but still a very capable camera. My Dad was able to pick one up from the canon refurb store on eBay for under £150.

After a big zoom though to take to football. As 4x zoom won't get me close. I guess the NIKON was no good?

If you need a long zoom, I'm not sure what would be your best option. Maybe a Panasonic TZ model?

I don't think it'll easy to find a compact with a long zoom and good IQ for less than £150. But who knows!

Jessops are doing a canon sx210is which has a 14x zoom lens for just under £150 if that's any help

I was lucky enough to pick up a panasonic TZ18 for my sister on the amazon boxing day special @ £120 minus the £25 cashback thingy makes it £95.

They were gone under a minute.

Another poster has just asked about a Samsung WB700, currently on offer in Curry's for £124. It's a 14.2Mp with an 18x Schneider lens that doesn't look too bad. Might just be what you're looking for.
