Comments people make.

Yes you will.

Listen and read the positive advice and help,as I do, from the people who offer it.

The trolls and BS, ignore.

You do have a point but it would be nice if these sort of comments were eliminated.

I know you do mate and im always greatfull for your input. and i agree with your post mostly After all the most of us are here to learn

:) Glad am of some service!!

There was a post many moons ago about simply sayng 'nice shot' is not what everyone wants - why is it a 'nice shot' woud help!

Since then I've tried (honest I have) to say why I like it or offer constructive ideas on how a shot might be improved - always leave on a +ve note though!!!

If everyone starts posting like that I will never get to the standard I want to in photography.

Perhaps you should put your posts into the critique section and you will get the critique you desire, Matt.

Matt, there are a lot of self opinionated gobEDITED on here. However, IMHO, they are by far outweighed by good people offering good and helpful advice, you need to sort out who is who...............

I remeber that one!!

It is nice to get a 'nice shot' as it means someone likes it BUT it then agian its about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Good on ya

i get plenty of advice off by posting in the general sections. If I want more then I will post there. Genrally I learn something from everyone of my threads.

Unfortunatly.

That is true. Thank god.

I love to get feedback on my photos, most of the photos are pretty poor! but im learning and the comments I get help so much.

I also like to leave comments, I cant give any help! being a novice but if I like what i see i just say so. I must admit I feel nervous when posting and many a time I dont get across what i want to say!

Thats the thing. I dont like the fact people are scared to post :bang:

You should post in confidence.

I aint saying but I did get a telling off from Jimmy Lemon for name calling! Want exactly my finest moment onthe forum.

IMO. If I receive bad Crit then it makes a good comment all the more special.

That was a rhetorical question Matt but Kudos for answering it
We all say things we regret from time to time its human nature ;)

There is a very definite problem to how people perceive criticism from strangers. I saw a post recently where the critic appeared to be shot down because he wasn't qualified to offer criticism. I questioned the validity of this and got this response;........
Bob

That was out of order, are we to select images we choose to offer an opinion on, based solely on whether we could shoot it better ourselves ? and do we have to provide some proof of that.....I think not, 1 post or 10000 posts its good enough for me, everyone has the right to voice an opinion without offering an R Mapplethorpe body of work to validate it.

I had a lot to say about that whole episode, but chose not to, you did a infinitely politer job than I could...:bonk:

Even without technical nous you know why you like or dislke an image and its worth saying - it all helps (or should help) the OP and as long as its done with tact, diplomacy and consideration there should be no tears!

Its all subjective anyway so if one of my images gets the overall thumbs down I will either use that info to change my style or learn something OR accept that what I like not everyone else does :) and keep on plugging away :)

just another thing to add, if you see comments posted that you dont like, there is a red trinagle under the posters name, click on that and the mod team will be alerted, and will comment or not, depending on the post. Dont read something you dont like then flounce off in a strop, report the post and let us decide.

Where the blazes does " I flash at goats" come from Matty........:suspect:

Will bear that in mind.

Firstly I am not trolling.
Secondly I know I am not an angel when it comes to this. I have had my wrist slapped many a time by a mod for getting arugumentive.

Right, can I really try and ask people to leave more constructive comments. I see threads were people leave comments that offer no help what so ever to the OP to improve. This drives me mad!!! No-one is going to learn if you put, 'These are poo' or something to that tune. At least say why and if you feeling genourous offer a solution. If you havnt got time, comment when you have. I mean its common sense!!!!

Secondly read your comments BEFORE you post them to make sure they sound like you are offering advice and not being a pompus arse. Fairy nuff it may sound funny to you but someone else may not find it funny. Also if it is meant to be a joke leave a  or :D or :coat:.

Basically just thing about how you would feel if someone posted a comment like your about to.

Thank you for reading
Matt

[S3]THIS POST IS USELESS WITHOUT SOME SPECIFIC EXAMPLES :D [/S3]

Then of course there is the crit-which to say the least if you took as much time and thought about composing and exposure as some would suggest by nit picking to the extreme-the picture would be long gone and a distant memory.

Keep it real guys-composition colour exposure-does it work. Not-well maybe if you had moved the qe2 just a few feet to the left and painted it green first it might have worked better-thats not crit but plain old mmm I cant find much wrong with this lets create something wrong LOL.

Anybody ever tell you that you have a lovely way with words. That made me laugh:lol::lol:

i agree with constructive critism. Me being useless with a camera at the moment i dont leave much feedback on peoples pictures other than "thats awesome". I cant offer advice as i dont have a clue what im talking about. I am honestly going to do a search and figure out what all this F stop malarky is...

But i would hate the mods to over moderate peoples useless comments. This is the internet. Dont take it too seriously. I would hate to be on a forum where everyone had to be politically correct and not say they looked like eBay snap shots if thats what they really thought...

If ive got a fat arse just say it, i dont wanna here how its handy when sitting down for long periods..

Some of us are straight talking Charlie, sometimes it is the best way.......:D

id rather that then nothing tbh, it helps you think more about getting a simular shot next time. I must be the best there is or possible the worst judging by the complete lack of crit in vitually anything i post.

On a serious note, I am 100% guilty of saying one liners such as "awesome" or "good shot" etc, but normally, most of the crit etc has already been said. However, I ALWAYS try and go through "unanswered posts" and offer any advice and crit if I can (I think I did at least 20 today), however I know I have limited experience and knowledge and am worried that its pig headed of me to think my advice is worth giving...

Anyhoo, if anyone had issues with my posts I hope it would be brought to my attention...

I'm not paranoid, honest :D

Gary.

Shutit you...furry little EDITED! :D

What is that in your avatar?

Its a stoat, ya muppet.

Slightly sharper than my warbler......................

Nah, I made it up........

:)

You had some help along the way..........

Don't you think that those last posts were a little disrespectful to the OP?

I always try to post & to offer as much help as I can.
But sometimes it is beyond my technical/limited knowledge, so I will just say great/superb/stunning shot, because I believe it is!
(and wait for someone with more technical/photographic experience than me to appear)

I think whats worse is when you post for C & C and get 150 odd views & only 3-4 comments!:bang:

Regards Spence

i dont think that people always have to justify a positive comment - i think some times you see a picture and you just like it - plain and simple, and if it is posted on a forum and you reply saying - "great picture love it" - what is the problem with that?

with a negative comment i think you should justify the comment, but you are not obliged to suggest a way of improving it, often people are not able to suggest a way of improving it - but indicating that there is something wrong with the photo is helpful.

Be selective with the photos you post - less is more - post the good ones but also post the bad ones - don't post the run of the mill photos, and don't take the bait if someone is trying to wind you up.
