Might need some reassuring folk to help convince my better half that impulse buying a new Canon 300 f2.8 was the right thing to do! C'mon guys. Do a good deed for the day!

In retrospect, I think it may have been partly her fault for telling me that I could go do my own thing while she shopped! But needless to say, I kept that blindingly obvious statement to myself. Lord knows why non photo folk don't see the world as we do!
 
Telling her is the big mistake. if she sees it just say, 'What, this old thing? Had it for ages!' After all that's how women have passed off their dress purchases for ever!

The friend who bought my Canon 70D from me and whom I also acquired a Canon 70-300mm IS (not L) for from TP Classifieds is now complaining to me that his wife is using the camera more than he is! She has also privately told me that she would like me to look out for a 1.4x extender for her to buy him as a surprise.... I wonder who will be using it the most!
 
Tell her you'll get her a new kitchen and hoover...

....Whoa!! Not such a good idea! Have you no idea how much a new kitchen would cost? He would have to sell ALL his camera gear plus other toys to pay for it.

Gotta buy the damn house first! Although we have agreed that I get a whole room for 'all your camera cr*p' as she politely puts it. I wonder how long that will remain my room before I get up to my danglies in shoes, knitting and cooking utensils?

All bets received! (I'm going with 'before I even had it!' - currently showing at 1/1)

....Personally I don't think this bodes at all well for the future and I certainly wouldn't refer to anyone as my "better half". But that's just me and it may explain why I am very happily divorced and can afford the joys of being self-centred (quite different from being selfish). :D

Well, if it's to go on a 70-300 neither of them will be using it much....
 
This isn't any help to the OP now, but it might be in future. Someone I know manages to deceive his wife by ensuring that she never sees two big white lenses at the same time. If she only ever sees one big white lens, then there is only one big white lens...

I have another question regarding this. Does anybody know if this will work with my canon 2x converter, or will I have to buy a sigma converter. I should have it tomorrow, but I can't wait to find out. I want to know if I'm going to have to drop anothing bomb shell.

I want to know if the sigma 300 f2.8 will fit onto a canon 2x converter, or do you have to use sigma converter with sigma lens?
 
We all thought you said your impulse purchase was a Canon 300mm f/2.8....

... but anyway, a Canon extender will fit. (If you were a Nikon user you'd have to get a Sigma teleconverter, but as a Canon user you don't have to.)

so you ahvent bought a canon 300? didnt people talking about white lenses seem odd?

well theres your answer to your wife.. tell her yes you spent money.. but its second best and you restrained from paying out for the one you wanted :)
 
No, because I have plenty of other white Canon lenses. :D
