Today I made a 60 mile round trip to the forrestry commision at Wendover, Bucks, to get the tree I wanted. All my adult life, I had Scots Pine trees, until the last few years, when they seem to be extinct anywhere inside the M25. As noble as the Nordman maybe, it just isn't the same.
So I got there to be faced with row upon row of...yep, Nordman and spruce :bonk: So I collared the very nice gentleman and asked for a Pine. He led me to a bay on th eopposite side of the yard and rather apologetically said they only had two left and they were rather odd specimens. They no longer grow them in the woods there, but when they are cutting and clearing, any 'wild' ones are brought in for sale. The first was the spindliest toilet brush you have ever witnessed, so I discounted that one immediately - my aversion to tinsel on trees would leave a very threadbare looking tree indeed - so I turned to the other. Short, misshappen, dumpy...YEAH!!! THAT was the tree for me. A bit odd, a misfit, a wonky wobbly wunda tree. Even got a significant discount for taking it off their hands.
So I brought it home, carried out a little gentle pruning and argued with the stand a lot, and here is the result. The oddest tree I have ever had, but I dont care, it smells divine and is kinda cute, albeit missing its fairy which seems to ave vanished into the nether reaches of the attic somewhere, so for now, straw Santa sits atop looking very disgruntled indeed, until I can find/buy new fairy.
Brace yourselves.....

I have to be honest, it looks much better in the picture than it actually is.
