Coloured flash diffusers..

I've been using strobes for a while and have always used a Sto-fen (or similar) diffuser, which I find makes a reasonable difference to the quality of bounced flash.

I'd like to use some gels / filters to better match my flash colour temp. to that of the ambient light to make colour correction easier. I'm not too keen on using semi-disposible gels and velcro though, and would ideally like a solution that takes a similar form to the slip on Sto-fen diffuser.

I've spotted a few coloured diffusers on ebay, but they look more suited to "novelty" use than serious colour correction.

Does anyone know where I might source a decent set of coloured diffusers, or if they even exist?

Unfortunately buying sheets of correction gels by either Rosco or Lee Filters is the way forwards in terms of selection and flexibility. The range is just too vast and then there's the specials etc.

Stofen do make some omni-bounce type things that are coloured for flourescent and tungsten correction but it seems variations in temp are very limited.

I cut all my gels in a similar way to the freebies gels that came with my SB-800, never ripped a gel or had to see fit to toss one in the rubbish either.

No velcro needed and all your diffusers, modifiers and stofens aren't hindered in any way when attached or fitted.

Make sure the fold is scored tight or the gel will flap away from the flash head, the two small rectangular holes really help with this tight scoring.

The kit is expensive but it works.

P.S. Have a look at the demonstration video. Its V funny but you have to feel sorry for the lad.

You can also cut the gels into strips and fit the stofen over the top of them which holds them in place as an interference fit.

Thanks for the link Chris - looks like a good bundle of kit, although about £100 more than I can afford at the moment. Tis a comedy vid too; fair play to the lad for soldiering on with it

I think for the time being I'll aim to knock up some gels that attach to the flash a' la Tomas' photos (thanks for posting the images - very helpful) or some to sit inside the sto-fen (cheers Jason).
