Nikon D800 with Nikon AFS 24-70 f2.8 g ED lens. Memory card main Sandisk CF extreme pro 32GB 160m/s (udma7)-- Secondary slot Sandisk SD extreme pro 32 GB 95m/s class 10

Recording to RAW on the CF main card and to Jpeg fine on the backup SD card there seems to be a bit more colour in the Jpeg photo. The camera took a single shot recording to both cards at the same time

I was wondering if anyone happened to know the reason why

left RAW --------------------right Jpeg as shot no editing. the grass looks as if more colour as do the bean sticks in the Jpeg on the right

The jpg has been processed by the camera where as the raw has been processed to display on your computer (by whatever program you are using). Jpgs often have a little more saturation out of camera too.

Yep processed (jpeg) verses unprocessed (raw) :)

Both are JPEGs! You cannot display a RAW file until it has been converted. Your 'RAW' file is either an in-camera JPEG thumbnail image inserted into the actual RAW file or it is a default conversion produced by your computer software.

A RAW file is not an image but the sensor recorded flat data
saved to your card. When seen on the camera's LCD, a pre-
view is generated by the maker's software and its primarily use
is to check the composition and sharpness as the histogram
reflects the "as is" recorded exposure values.

A JPG is an image built up from the RAW data
— plus the chosen options onboard in the menu (vivid etc) or
— in a RAW converter where the thumbnail and the preview
(both jpg on screen) will reflect the SOOC plus the eventual
adjustments one may tweak in.
