Hi

I'm just editing the images from a wedding last weekend and I wondered how you choose how many images if any to make black and white.

I asked the couple what they would like and they just said they trust in my judgement. There are around 30-40 images from the 400 that I have that really do look better in black and white however I feel that with so few being in B+W they now just stand out as being different.

Keen to hear anyone else's thoughts, particularly from wedding togs.

Cheers

We deliver around 600 images. The amount of B/W photos depends on the wedding really but maybe 10% on average. Some we've delivered have had a handful, some have had loads. I just convert to B/W if a) the image lends itself to it or b) the lighting was unflattering. A lot of my B/W photos are those that are high on emotion - crying etc. I think its more flattering to people when they've been photographed in such a vulnerable state.

It depends on what the couple want to a certain extent but we wouldn't usually put more than 10-15 shots in black and white on the disk (and then always doubles of the colour shots), they can always come back and get reprints/whatever in B+W if they want from any of the images.
