Hi all,

I'm confused. Well, being a relative n00b, I would be. So if you have anything to say, speak s l o w l y and lay things down simply as possible (although I doubt there's a non-confusing, layman way of answering)!:D

Recently I had some shots processed via Photobox. These shots were taken on my D100 and edited in PS (only minor fiddling). I reset the camera at some point proir to taking these shots, so I think I also managed to reset the colour space to default (sRGB). In the exif file for these particular shots under colur space it says:

"Colour Space not calibrated"

In all other shots before I reset the camera, it doesn't mention colour space at all in their exif file. Here are the images in question.

When I received the print of this image it had a nasty orange/yellow cast.

This one had a nasty yellow cast.

This one appeared to lack saturation, esp. in the flower head.

This also had a yellow cast.

So, to you, on your monitor, do these symptoms appear as described?

I had various other shots back from Photobox such as (the exif file for these shots doesn't mention colour space at all):

The print seemed fine to me. As per my monitor.

This one is fine too, as above.

I've just changed my colour space setting on camera to AdobeRGB. I've set PS to AdodeRGB 1998. I haven't had the chance to take any shots, but am I working on the right lines here?

Cheers for reading, and any feedback:)

My cam and PS workspace are in RGB but before posting on the web and/or sending to Photobox, I convert the jpeg to sRGB. Hope that helps (cool puss photo).

Yours is set to RGB then I take it. NOT Adobe RGB?

As Milou has said if you intend to publish pics on the 'net then you should save them as sRGB files (the S stands for 'Single') Microsoft and Hewlett Packard conceived the idea of a single or common RGB colour space to enable as common or uniform a viewing experience as possible on different monitors.

Adobe RGB has a wider colour gamut than sRGB, but whether you'd actually see the difference is another matter and depends a lot on the image and the particular colours. It's usually considered to be an advantage to save pics for printing in Adobe RGB colour space.

My cameras are set to sRGB but if you shoot RAW it doesn't actually matter what it's set to as no colour profile is assigned to RAW files.

You pics look fine to me btw.

Ok, cheers CT.

Perhaps Photobox were having an off day?

The thing is, I gather their printing machines differ between normal, say upto 10x8 (all my 10x8's were fine) and A3 (which I had the problems with). Perhaps next time I'll see different results.

I've never used Photobox, but it's fair to say they have a very good reputation. If you tell them about your problem they'd probably reprint the A3s for you, they're usually anxious to please. It does seem odd that your 10X8s were OK?

It is odd. They're totally spot on really. I've had a few big enlargments from them before and they've been fine (although admittedly that was through my bridge camera).

I may well give them a bell tomorrow to see if they'll run me off some fresh reprints.

Cheers.

Yep, give them a call, I had a batch of A3's printed a while back and one came back with a yellow cast, I called them and they re-printed all of them and they were with me the following day. Their customer service is excellent.

Dropped them a line and was told they'll reprint them for me:)

I had 100 prints from Photobox a couple of weeks ago and they all had a yellow cast. My monitors are all profiled using a Sypder2 so I was quite surprised they turned out like they did. I was thinking it could be a printing error and was going to send a couple of them again to compare.
