why are there different colour modes? and what are they for? cymk, rgb, Lab, hsb.
Should i do my PP in a certain mode?
 
Dont know about eg!, but
cymk was invented for printing
rgb for screen displays including tv
lab because it mimics the human eye
hsb because it is probably the most natural way to describe colour
There are more!!
Different modes have advantages/disadvantages depending on the characteristics of the image.
You can use EasyCurve (under 2/ on this page http://www.broadhurst-family.co.uk/lefteye/MainPages/actions.htm) to experiment with them all.

I personally find HSB the best to monitor colour and Lab the best to post-process, as it is simple and separates tones from colour and is almost inituitve.

Have fun exploring them all and making up your own mind
 
I thought it was best to stick with RGB and sRGB as its the the universally accepted version? This may not necessarily be the best, but from what ive read, you should really understand color modes before you play around with them.

Am I right, I would love to know, I do not know nearly enough, and would like to understand this more.
 
Adam, you're mixing colour space with modes. The different modes give different ways of defining a colour, eg RGB is components of Red Green Blue whereas HSB is Hue Saturation Brightness, etc. Colour Space defines what colours are available to be used from a theoretically infinite palette and just to complete the tale Colour Profiles are similar to a Space but define the limits of a device such as the monitor, printer, etc.
 
So RGB would be the colour mode
and sRGB is the colour space? Is that the universally accepted space?
 
so what's colour space? where'd I put my other can of worms??
