Colour Laser printer a little help

£245 for a printer and then £230 when it runs out of toner........?

I don't know anything about this printer, but the best colour "laser" I've used is my Xerox Phaser. Looks like they are selling for around £400 as a refurb. I have mine on Page Pack so I don't worry that it uses quite a lot of ink.

Very high quality prints and the only printer I've used that I am happy to send 200 double sided colour prints to and just walk away. If there's enough paper in the tray, the job will be done when I get back.

I can support Jonathan's sentiment. I'm on my third Xerox Phaser now - an 8560. When we wear one out, I simply buy a new one and place it on top of the extra paper tray we have. But its best to use Xerox solid inks rather than compatibles. I trashed one by using cheapo compatible inks. Come to think of it, I trashed an HP colour laser years ago in the same way.

Don't use compatible inks, folks. They work out much more expensive.

No experience of colour laser printers but can only echo John's comment about using genuine toners. I tried one in my mono laser printer and while it caused no long term problems, it did waste a certain amount of paper. I ended up getting the cot refunded - 7dayshop didn't want the faulty/naff one back. Talking to a friend who runs the reprographic department at a local facility, he has told me that I was lucky not to b****r the rollers with cheapo crap toner. IIRC, the institution uses Xerox copiers etc, most of which are the size of a family car...

Took a look at the Xerox Phaser range and there are similarities in cost of the lower end A4's and Toner pack prices. Got to be a marketing strategy hasn't it .

What model Phaser do you have experience of and can you recommend a good place to buy? TIA

Thanks for all the replies and the heads up on compatibles - Ive already been told a few tales of woe from other on this too so noted!

I have the 8560. That's now obsolete but you can still pick them up.

I'm on a zero minimum page pack - which means that if I don't print anything I don't pay anything. I bet Xerox have stopped deals like that now because I can't see how they make money on it from low volume users.

I got mine through Xeretec. Wouldn't recommend them TBH. My guess is that compared to most of their customers my account with them is tiny and I've had quite a few billing issues. Maybe look for a firm more suited to the smaller business.

I would recommend looking for a page pack if you plan to use it infrequently. The engineer told me that turning the printer on uses about half a stick of ink - Xerox recommend leaving it on 24/7. Since I pay for electricity but not ink I only turn it on when I need it ;) I go through a lot of ink.

I leave my 8560 on 24/7 and only have to buy a full set of inks about every 9 months or so.

Bought it outright with no usage pack.

We have a Samsung 620ND Colour Laser printer which is absolutely faultless. To buy Samsung replacement toner (5000 A4 Pages) costs a fortune
but if you go to www.tonertopup.co.uk replacements including chips (electronic ones, not edible ones) come to about £120.
We print all sorts of flyers, menus, cd insets etc. etc. on 110 gsm bright white paper and it is excellent.
