Yes
hi all i know you can calibrate your desktop monitor, but i only have a laptop and just wondering if a laptop screen can be calibrated using the same hardware or does it depend on your laptop thanks in advance

Yes you can calibrate a laptop screen. I've done it several times. However the quality of the final result does vary depending on both the screen and the video cars used.

You can calibrate a laptop.. just bear in mind that most laptops have pretty crap screens and the viewing angle is crucial. Change teh viewing angle, and you've effectively changed the profile... even with IPS.. the vertical viewing angles aren't that great compared to horizontal.

Another thing to consider is any automatic ambient adjustments. A great many laptops will brighten or darken the screen in accordance with ambient light levels... you need to turn all that crap off before you profile... and keep it off once profiled.

thanks guys and any recommendations for the hardware

I use the X-Rite i1 profiler, The Spyder 4 gets some good reviews as well

Watch out for power management settings. Often to conserve power, especially on battery, the backlight gets dimmed and this can throw your calibration off.
