We're starting a new project in college after the half term, and it's on portraits. I'm personally not a big fan on taking portrait pictures, i feel some what awquard :/

We have to do a Location and a Studio shoot, I think i'll be able to do the Studio shoot as i can take someone i know into college, at the same time college are saying drag a random in! I'll go against that though i think xD

However my real problem is doing the location shoot as i wont know anyone, i want my images to be quite close and personal but i can't really do that if i do Candid shots, also i don't want the photo to be Posed by asking people if they would mind, anyone got any ideas on how i could shoot my location? :(

Thanks Samantha.

Hi Samantha, and welcome to TP

For location shots, have you got (or access to) a reasonable length prime or zoom, 200mm for example. This might get you over your fears. I think once you actually get started, you'll wonder what you worried about.

Edit:
Meaning that you can get your up close and candid shots, without being uncomfortably close to your subject(s).

Thanks for the Welcome :)

Yeah i do have access pretty much any lens you'd like to use :) I was thinking of trying a 200mm but wasn't sure if it'd work well for candid. I kow my way around photography but when it comes to lens' i get lost to where you'd use different ones! :(

Thanks alot though! I'll certinally try it :) When I have my shots i'll be sure to post them and ask for people opinions :)

maybe even an 85? im thinking of getting one and you can get nice tight shots without being too close, for me the 200 would be too wobbly

An 85 would indeed be a nice lens and the f/1.8 is not as expensive as its faster brothers
Not sure a 200 should be wobbly :D although I think I understand what you are trying to say. Many a good candid shot (wobble-less) would indicate otherwise LOL.

Do what I am doing and work your way around the brief by doing... Street portraits!
