If making a private sale to America, in your experience, what has been the best way to receive payment.

I do not use PayPal.

Scammers favourite, Western Union.

Buyer may be reluctant to use WU though.

why not use bank transfer. Ask your bank for your IBAN number

To complete my selling abroad experience.

We used bank transfer for its obvious security. I followed Hugh's advice and contacted my bank. They gave me a BIC / SWIFT CODE as well as the IBAN number. This, along with my banks address, was all the information needed. The transfer took two days.
