Just been outside and it is real cold here:eek:. Any recommendations for a suitable pair of gloves for handling a camera in these conditions?

I use a great pair of Musto Windstopper shooting gloves ... :D

MUSTOs

Not cheap but they are wind and showerproof and have flaps for the thumbs and two fingers so you can still operate the camera and stuff ... ... they are superb ... ;) ... AND they're Green ...

HTH ...

:p

I use glove liners. Not as warm as many others but flexible enough to operate a camera, plus they cover all the hand an figures. Also you can stuff your hands easily in you pockets to get them warm.

Roll on summer!!

I use some thin jewellers gloves with a pair of thinsulate fingerless gloves over the top.

Lots of suggestions, thanks, I need to keep my fingers warm as I suffer from Raynaud's disease, but in my case it is "white finger" caused by using vibrating tools. Unfortunately I was persuaded to settle for very little by my union at the time, unlike the generous settlements the miners received.

Just needed an answer to this question while wandering around my home town taking photos .... my hands were almost blue by the time I got home!

Those shooting gloves look good :)

Have a look at Blacks -they have a good range of quality gloves. I have a pair of Berghaus Windstoppers. They're very effective and whilst not particularly thin for feel, I'm invariably using a tripod so they suit me just fine.

If you fancy splashing out, Lowepro do some photographers gloves :)

About £20 quid though, I think Matt has them?

On the scale of what I have spent already  I wouldn't consider £20 splashing out:)

I beleive they are actually quite good, but worth £20? To a tightarse like me...nope! lol

look here at Altura Strada Thermal Full Finger Cycling Glove
(product ID: 13248)

lightweight with palm grips

lowepro know how to charge

I have a pair in bright orange (builders gripper gloves) that would be just as good:lol::lol::lol:

Thats just reminded me, I've got a pair of Barbour ones the same as that. I used to use them for fishing. I'll have to dig them out! Thanks!

Intresting look like the ones i got from work for free  which i use for shooting outside when it freezing.

Basically they look just like what we get from work which also have rubber grip underneath.

Sealskinz lightweight sports gloves - amazing. Waterproof, merino wool outer layer, rubberised grips. Anything from £25-£35 depending on where you buy.

No gloves. You must all suffer or it's not real art.

pffft.

I must have bought dozens of pairs of various full and fingerless versions to try. Trouble is I've still never actually had a pair in the bag when I've needed them. :bonk:

Go to an outdoors shop, usually a few different thin gloves with "sticky" grip palms. I have a pair of "Ice Mountain" gloves from Craigdon Sports in Aberdeen, £9.99 - just the job!! I also use them skiing, climbing and cycling...

You can buy them online as well - link is the pic ;)

Ive got a pair of Lowepro gloves, id only used them a couple of times, they do seem very good.

these for me as well...waterproof and windproof. Fairly thick but thin enough to let you still use the camera without having to take the gloves off first!

I use Nike ACG mitts (which are my snowboarding mitts). Wore them today when it was about minus -5 with the windchill and I was sweating like a pig in a knacker's yard! £20 from TK Maxx

Sealskins all the way. 100% waterproof, warm enough, thin enough to operate the camera and very grippy rubber bits on the palms and fingers.

Unfortunately I have to have fingerless as I have low sensation in my fingers so anything covering them would hamper my ability to use the camera.

Now if they did the sealskinz in fingerless, I might be interested, but for now the cycling ones will have to do.

i just got some of the lowepro ones, i knew there would be others equally or more suitable but needed them quick. ordered from jacobs, one of few places with some in stock, and chose special delivery which was cheaper than normal delivery !
not cheap but they do feel good, i'll let you know how they feel after a week in the highlands, which if the long range weather forecasts are right is going to be a hell of a week :(

Big thanks for all the suggestions, I have a few to look at, I will let you now what choice I have made.

Cheers Mal.

I found that the fit is most important, my normal snowboarding pipe gloves are slightly too big and it is a pain to use the camera controls, so I bought some new ones a size smaller, they are tight to get on, but when it comes to using the camera you don't know you have them on.

Having gone out yesterday without any I don't know what was moving more - my hands or the branches!! There is now a pair in the bag
