I'm looking for filters now I've got my new camera on the way and I'd like opinions on a couple of things. I'm looking at either going for a Cokin P-series system, or possibly a few Hoya screw on filters. First of all, what is the best option of the 2 considered to be? And secondly, what are te best 2 or 3 filters to go for as a start for doing landscape and portrait togging?

Apologies if this is a repost.

These are actually really different systems.

If you want to use ND Grads you need to use something like Cokin.

For polarization or neutral density for landscape otherwise screw-in filters are fine.

You don't need any filters for portrait work.

Okie dokey then! I'm drawn to the Cokin, it seems a tidier system and certainly easier to swap and change filters as you feel. Price wise there snot much in it, so Cokin I think will win this one!

Is the P-series as simple as buying the adaptor ring, filter holder then whatever filters you fancy?

Yes - although for polarisation I prefer to use a 77mm screw in C-Pol and step down.

Great, so who's good for polarising?

Great cheers, I thought it might have been somewhere else.

Sorry again about the repost.
