Cokin Filter?

I bought my first set of cokin filters the other day which were advertised as 72mm. The adapter ring fits ok but the holder is tiny and covers my lens. I measured the actual filters too and they came out at 67mm. I'm guessing the seller has messed up the ad somewhere.
My question is...what size holder and filters do I need? Im using a nikon 18-200mm lens, which is 72mm diameter.

I have 77mm lens adapter and it worked fine. Are you using the Cokin P series?
 
so are you saying for a 72mm lens i need to get a bigger adapter than 72mm?
yeah sorry it was the p filters
 
oh right brilliant. I think I've got confused because Ive received the wrong size and they've said it 72mm but it cant be now.
I just cancelled the order from amazon out of panic...I better go re order...oops :bonk:

Sorry yeah I phrased that wrong. I have a 77mm filter thread and it works fine with the 77mm adapter. You must have just been unlucky.
