cokin filter holders

hey there peeps, im pondering on wether to buy a cokin filter holder and some filters for my 400d but i have'nt a clue about these and how they fit to my camera, so any advice would be greatly appriciated, e.g what to buy and fitting ect ect:thinking:
 
If i was you i'd look at the Lee holders. Ive found the cokin holders can be a pain at times
 
The system is basically made up of 3 parts. There's an adaptor ring that screws on to the front of the lens. They come in different sizes to suit the diameter of the lens. Next is the holder, which slots on to the adaptor ring. The filters then simply slot into the holder.
 
thanks guys, how much would i be looking at for the lee filters setup?????
 
I would get Cokin first, they are cheap enough to toss away after a few years if you don't need or want them, but the Lee filters are expensive in comparison.

There is also the middle ground of hitec / formatt filters
