Bees are useful (go to any supermarket and pick up a jar of honey!). Wasps are a menace!
Not entirely true as they eat a lot of bugs, if there weren't wasps we'd be over run with aphids and the like
The balance of nature is a gentle thing, I watched a David Attenborough documentary where a farmer had a fruit bat colony on his farm, they ate some of his plumbs so he wiped them out, what he didn't realise was bats only eat ripe fruit so all they were eating was the windfall.
Next year he went bankrupt, because he'd killed all the bats the farm was over run with insects which ate all his plumbs because the bats weren't there to eat the insects.

Wasps - Is there anything good about wasps? Yes. Despite their poor reputation, wasps are great friends to the wildlife gardener particularly in the spring and summer when they eat pest insects in your vegetable garden. Dead and rotting wood provides them with the material to make their extraordinary paper nests, and they enjoy all the same nectar-producing plants as the hoverfly.
