A jumbo jet flying from London to Edinburgh emits a little over 33 tonnes of CO2.
 
The M4 between J3 and J4 adjacent to Heathrow usually has a speed limit applied for 'Air Quality'. I kid you not.
 
yeap it is a big part of the bigger problem flying :-( the world is literally addicted to fossil fuel and co2
 
Whilst that is true, the shipping industry is even more of a problem, and cruises are very popular. We need freight shipping, although the industry has reduced speeds in order to use less fuel and emit less noxious stuff, but cruises are optional.
 
When looking at the transport of goods, I always thought that shipping would be the worst because of the heavy diesel. But when looking it up and from a grams per tonne perspective, then a large container vessel is insanely environmentally friendly!

It isn't but per kilogramme of fuel it has a high energy content, so less is consumed. Because the ships move slowly they burn less so if your metric is CO2 output it wins versus kerosene in a plane.
