Yes
I have an "elderly" Windows 7 system that I keep up to date in case of problems with my other PCs. I've now found that on this system the clock keeps going back to 2010 when I turn the PC off. Looking on Google it seems as though the battery on the mother board could have failed.

Has anyone on here ever replaced a CMOS battery, is it simple?

Depends how its fitted, some just pop out like a watch, I have had one that was soldered in but that was in a very old laptop.
Take the case apart and have a look

Most use a coin battery, possibly a CR2032, piece of cake to replace, pop the lid off, it should be easily visible

yeah usually as folk say a coin battery on old machines, if you can find out the model number it will be on youtube

Neil, Chris, Paul, thanks for all the help. I wish everything to do with computers was as easy. It was a CR2032 battery and luckily I had a new one in the house.
