Hello all,

I "might" (if I get some friends) be going out tomorrow night to a club in Newquay called Barracuda. Now before you all judge me I can't stand dance music and I am a 80s rock and metal guy

But apparently there are break dancers and fire breathing and all other shenanigans so I thought it might be a good photo opportunity. Now I know clubs are ok with you taking a small camera but I'm thinking that I may get stopped if I take my 400D. I know I will get stopped on the door because I look 16 anyway but I don't want any hassle is the bouncers are going to tell me I can't bring in my camera.

The club has it's own "professional" photo section where you can pay to get your photo taken in front of a screen covered in barracuda as a memento. I'm going to guess because they want to make money from this they won't allow me to take photos. I'm just guessing though so thought I would ask you guys and gals for your advice.

Also while I'm asking. What settings should I have my camera set at for shot's in a club? I don't want to go in clueless and come out with crap results. Should I use the flash?

I have a feeling they won't be able to reply quick enough. So I might pop into their bar tomorrow and have a chat. I need to go to the beach anyway to take some photos!

I take photos in nightclubs for fotoparty.co.uk in Manchester, we have to be cleared by the PR or manager for the club to gain entry so you should ask beforehand. We also have ID badges aswel to show to the door staff.

If you just speak to the manager and get permission before, get his/her name and when you turn up on the night, you can just say '<Manager's name> gave me permission to shoot here'. Usualy they will just let you streight in.

I don't think they will be too bothered anyway since your just going there with your friends (i.e. not shooting for a company). However, you said they have their on photographers inside, when clubs have their own they are usualy more strict on people bringing in pro cameras (clubs often sign contracts with individual freelancers or nightclub photography companies).

Yes use the flash...flashgun if you have one. If you don't you will come out with rubbish blurry photos as there's never enough light in clubs.

Just go find the manager and he/she will tell you if you can/cannot shoot there :)
