I really want a good portrait lens for my D40 - something with a nice wide aperture for shallow DoF (with good bokeh) that isnt a ridiculous price. Other than buying a 50 and manually focusing, are there any decent options?
Sigma do a 18-50mm f2.8 with a HSM (so suitable for the D40) - £329 from Express Warehouse, only suitable for the crop cameras and it's not the cheapest but it is about £500 cheaper than the Nikon equivalent 17-55 f2.8
Strokes Sigma 20mm f1.4 on D40X. The Bokeh is great and although you do have to get quite close to the subject for portrait photography, its still perfectly usable.
