Yes
I need to replace the whole length of fencing on one side of my property. The existing fence is built on a stepped retaining wall with wooden posts to a height of 6 foot. I will replace like for like other than the addition of a kick-board as part of the problem with the existing fence is the fact one of the previous occupiers of the adjacent property built up the level of their garden.

I have had some quotes but as always the price range is great. I will only go with a recommended firm.

I am based in Berkshire, any guidance on pricing would be appreciated.

Tempted to have a go myself, but don't fancy removing the existing posts.

I'll second that, it's pretty straight forward to build a fence. Do you know if the current fence posts use metposts and/or concrete?

Avoid places like B&Q like the plague when it comes to the timer and fixings. Massively overpriced and quality is crap. Go to a local sawmill/timber merchant. I use high quality screws and it helps if the timber isn't too dry. If using nails I prefer to use a nail gun.

Also a dedicated fence post spirit levels makes life a lot easier and only costs about £2.

IMG_1126.JPG The current posts are set into the retaining wall with concrete. The adjacent properties are higher than mine so the builders must have dug holds for the posts and then filled them with concrete. I'm am sure how remove them. The other option I have seen is to fix the posts to the outside of the wall, which is not as neat.

thats a bit of a silly way of doing it,but the posts dont look rotten though .could you keep the posts, and just replace the fence? or let us see the full fence.

Unfortunately this is one of the few remaining good posts. The others have either been snapped or are leaning and will break soon. None look rotten above ground which is annoying.

have a go your-self mate, not rocket science ,and you get allot more satisfaction from it.
posts are the hardest part, rest is easy.

It's not complicated but it's moderately hard work. Concrete posts are pretty heavy and panels are awkward.

Postcrete makes it really simple :)

Yeah, they don't rot above ground :)

It's a 2 man job and 2 men cost about £400 a day round here (250 trade + 150 labourer). M ore or less where you are. Price up your materials from Jacksons or similar and then figure out the number of days.
