Hi, I was wondering if someone could give me some feedback/ advice on the shots below.

I fancy getting into close up / macro but only have a 35mm prime or 55- 200mm zoom lens.

I took these shots today and not entirely sure which is the best. Basically not sure if close up shots like this are better with more or less depth of field.

Any advice would be appreciated.

To be fair, all reasonable shots. I personally prefer the shallow dof ones! Have you had a look at reversing your prime lens? Have a quick Google, some interesting results!

It's all up to you really. If you look in the macro section there are lots of photos with many different styles. I prefer shooting flowers and I enjoy a variety of different ways to shoot get bored with too much of the same....

If you want cheap macro, take a look at a raynox. They clip on to the front of 52-67mm lenses and for around £40, give great results.

Take a look in my Flickr or there's a Raynox thread on here

I tend to use manual focusing when shooting with my Macro lens 90% of the time, or to be more correct adjust the focus by moving the camera rather than autofocus. It depends on how fast the target is wandering about.

The 35mm (with low DoF - f1.8 or around that ) would be good to use. Try manual focus and set it to the closest focus you can, then move the camera until what you want is in focus.

The rule of thirds works really well, especially if you use the stamen as a feature.

These aren't amazing, but kind of shoe you what I mean, especially as they are of exactly the same flower...
