Yes
using photoshop is it possible to select an area and clone from another

what i mean is, if you have say an fair sized area odd shaped is it possible to select that area by lassso, then completly replicate that area from another part of that image exact same shape and replace it rather than having to brush over the whole area.... if that makes sense

Could you not go around the shape with the lasso tool, then select the Hand tool move the selected area to whereever needed and Copy it, then drag the lassooed area back to where you wanted it and paste it?

Yes it's simple, what you need to do is use the PATCH tool. You'll find it in the palette options with the healing tool. Using this tool select the area you want to clone, (Source not destination). The right click, and select As Destination, then move the selection to the area you want. You may need to tidy the edges up a bit, but does work well with some subjects.

You can use the "Use Patch as Source" option, but that can be a bit tricky getting a good match. Can work OK if the source and destination are similar.
