Cloning to a Hybrid Drive

Hi, I have a 750Gb Hybrid Drive (SSD & HD Combined) with a copy of Win8 on it, want to transfer a HD containing Win8.1 to it, any suggestions please.

I presume the Hybrid would need to be Formated but how do you do that??

Also how do you Clone to a Hybrid Drive, all Cloning Software describes how to Clone to a SSD but not to a Hybrid. Your advice please and what Software would you use??

I've only been asked to do this once to a larger seagate hybrid. Basically just clone. The hdd will manage the SSD portion.
I used Paragon hard disk manager. I think most hdd manufacturers offer free cut down versions of cloning software.
 
I have yet to use it myself but Macrium was recommended to me here http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx though as for a Hybrid HDD it was my understanding that it behaves just like a normal HDD and uses the SSD 'section' itself for moving the most frequently accessed files such as the OS onto it........................but a question or two to the drives makers and/or Macrium would hopefully answer that aspect ??? :)

Edit ~ thinking back I am sure I read that someone on another forum has used a Seagate Hybrid and Macrium to clone his OS drive and it went smoothly in that I do not think he reported any oddities.
 
Basically, you're over-thinking the problem as there isn't one. The fact that it's a hybrid drive is completely transparent to whatever you run on it so just use your normal cloning software.

Thanks for Info so far, will let the Thread run for a couple of days to see if any other replies say different.
 
As Jonathan says you are over analysing the matter...... It is possible that at a very low level control the drive could be defined as SSD and the individual platters. But this in everyday use is irrelevant, by all means await others insights or ask the drives maker and cloning software suppliers but the depth of access by analogy is like owning a fast car and because you want more control of the "power output curve" you get the ECU reprogrammed and such changes could be detrimental to the fuel consumption and/longevity of the engine???
 
Oh, fwiw I recall "advice" that I must admit I have stuck to that if you are partitioning a drive the first one created is closest to the spindle hence the heads travel shorter distances to access that partition.
 
It's 'just' a hard drive, and there's no need to treat it differently from any other. The drive controller works out what to stash where as you actually use it for better performance.

Unfortunately, however, that's the opposite of the truth. The first partition is created from the outside edge of the platter(s). Optical drives start at the centre and work outwards.

Ah! perhaps another senior moment on my part....as the heads idle/park position is away from the platter set I.e. furthest away from the spindle so the outer area is the quickest accessed ~ doh! ;)
