Clone stamp problems

Can anyone tell me why when I select the clone stamp tool press the alt key in elements on my selected piece of image to clone from and move it to the area I want to work on and click on it nothing happens .
 
Are you ALT and clicking at the same time?

You need to ALT & Click the first area, once thats done, click on the target arae you want to clone out.....
 
Are working on a blank layer or have a adjustment layer active and do not have sample all layers ticked or do you have the mode set to something other than normal ?

...or do you have the opacity turned right down in the top bar?
 
Thanks guys I got it I was holding the alt key down while clicking .
