Yeah!

I'll Sue Ya
by Weird Al Yankovic

Lyrics:

I sued Taco Bell
'Cause I ate half-a-million Chalupas and I got fat
I sued Panasonic
They never said I shouldn't use their microwave to dry off my cat, huh

I sued Earthlink
'Cause I called 'em up and they had the nerve to put me on hold
I sued Starbucks
'Cause I spilled a frappucino in my lap and brr, it was cold

I sued Toys 'R Us
Cause I swallowed a Nerf ball and nearly choked to death, huh
I sued PetCo
'Cause I ate a bag of kitty litter and now I got bad breath

I sued Coca-Cola, yo
'Cause I put my finger down in a bottle and it got stuck
I sued Delta Airlines
'Cause they sold me a ticket to New Jersey - I went there, and it sucked

Yeah
If you stand me up on a date
If you deliver my pizza thirty seconds late

I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, yeah, that's what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, yeah, I might even sue you
Ughh

I sued Duracell
They never told me not to shove that double-A right up my nose
I sued Home Depot
'Cause they sold me a hammer which they knew I might drop on my toes

I sued Dell Compueters
'Cause I took a bath with my laptop, now it doesn't work
I sued Fruit Of The Loom
'Cause when I wear my tighty-whities on my head I look like a jerk

I sued Verizon
'Cause I get all depressed every time my cell phone is roaming
I sued Colorado
'Cause you know, I think it looks a little bit too much like Wyoming

I sued Neiman Marcus
'Cause they put up their Christmas decorations way out of season
I sued Ben Affleck
Aww, do I even need a reason?

Uhh
If I sprain my ankle while I'm robbin' your place
If I hurt my knuckles while I punch you in the face

I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, yeah, that's what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna sue, sue, yes, I'm gonna sue
Sue, sue, that's right, I'm gonna sue you
Ughh, ughh, ughh

I'll sue ya, I'll take all your money
I'll sue ya if you even look at me funny
I'll sue ya, I'll take all your money
I'll sue ya if you even look at me funny
I'll sue ya, I'll take all your money
I'll sue ya if you even look at me funny
I'll sue ya, I'll take all your money
I'll sue ya if you even look at me funny

I'll sue ya, ha-ha ha ha-ha
I'll sue ya, whatchy'all think of that?
I'll sue ya, ha-ha ha ha-ha
Booya
I'll sue ya
Ughh

Slightly different "subject matter" but we get this as well, I go to do a "given job" then the customer says Oh no I only wanted a survey

Exactly. Happens occasionally to me too. Some deadbeat will get me out to identify a problem and quote for a job and that's the last I'll hear of it. Not because I'm too expensive, I know I'm not, but simply because they now know the fault and think they can fix it themselves.
Sometimes, of course, it backfires on them when they try to fix it and then I'll laugh heartily.

Same with some companies, as the OP has found.

Seeing a solicitor tomorrow. Sending in court allocation form on Thursday.

 Pete - please do keep us posted, I always read this thread when there's an update.

Give 'em hell Pete and don't take any prisoners. We could do with a black list of non-paying fools so there are consequences for non-payers.

Holy Cow! Is this thing still going on?
Sorry - I've been away for a bit. I just read through all the posts again (including my own less than sympathetic offering from way back) and just have this to add - the quality of the images is irrelevant - they accepted them and on that basis should pay. End of.
I think you're of the same opinion Pete - oh and your images are way better than theirs...lol... I didn't realise you had to shoot that many rooms in so short a time-frame. Next time I'll ask...

Oh yeah, still going :D i'm hoping the solicitor gives me good news tomorrow. I'm really scared of going into this and loosing.

yup
that's exactly what they're relying on
stick to your guns
good luck
and do let us know how it goes

Met with a solicitor today. I am now feeling more relaxed and at ease over the whole thing :) Thats not to say I'm going to win, more that I'm feeling more confident over it all. He didn't laugh in my face and say I'll flat out loose.

Pete, can I suggest a back up route via the BFP if you are not already a member. Here www,thebfp.com
They have a great resolution service for members (£49 for the year and have always managed to resolve the problems i've presented them with). They are basically a Freelancers union and almost always extract payment from dodgy clients.
It's a shame to have to go down that road but who needs dodgy non-paying clients anyway? Keep us all posted, I'm sure you will win. Most sit up and take notice when Solicitors letters start arriving.

So you are going to court over 250 quid?

I like to use my time and money doing productive things.

I'd say it was worth it for £25 let alone £250. Freelancers need to stand up to clients who think it's ok to rip people off, it's the only way the message will get across.

I'm into photography, not into principles.
Photography is fun. Principles aren't.

Doing a days work and not getting paid for it because someone doesn't feel like it isn't fun either.

I think the difference is when you are earning money. If one of my clients (I work in IT) wont pay - they are going to court. If someone agrees to pay me to do work, I expect to get paid.

Right now, I can so relate to this post ;)

Shall I write a how to sue someone using Photomatix guide? ;)

:D Nah, unfortunately the two I've got on the go just now don't fit into the small claims ;)

Your contract was with your client - if they accepted the work that is the end of the matter and they have to pay. If their client doesn't accept then that is their problem - not yours - you should pursue for the full amount owed.

Plus expenses!

There's a principle at stake here - if you just take photos for fun, fine. If you expect to make a career out of it then you have to treat it as a business - clients breaking faith is a nause, but these things have to be dealt with sharply or it ends up impacting on all of us who use photography as our living. If clients think they can take the P*** then they will - they're in business too and if they can avoid paying out, then they will. It's up to us to keep them on the straight and narrow by nipping this sort of behaviour in the bud.
Personally I would have torched their premises long ago - I think Pete's being very civilised about the whole thing.

Good luck today Pete,
let us know how it goes...

ahhh...you know me...when all else fails, MFV* gets it done...

Wahay! ...at last Pete. ...although I'm surprised seven pages of positiveness didn't fill you with confidence the first time round. ;)

Pleased to here your finally going all the way... I can't see how you can loose myself, fingers crossed for you.

Im reading a book on business practicies for professional photographers, as you imagine it touches on similar subjects to this quite a lot. The book very strongly suggests you to take anybody in infringes your rights be it via copyright or refusing to pay that you take them to the absolute cleaners.

The book talked more about copyright infringement but it simply said that you'll never catch them all so any you do catch you should really take them for every penny as for every person you catch there will be 10 slipping past by people who dont want the hassle of a court case. The more people that take action against this type of client the better.

I say <cheerleader>Go Pete Go!</cheerleader>
