Reading some of the for-sale adverts where camera bodies were being sold and noticed the phrase 'low clicks' which is self explanatory. It got me thinking as to what figures would we be talking about regarding low clicks, medium clicks & high clicks?

I guess it all depends on the camera.

pro Bodies will have better quality components, the D3 for examples uses a kevlar reinforced shutter to enable the high FPS, so you would expect that to cope with a few hundred thousand clicks.

Low for me would be under 3/4000, medium around 10,000+ high 60,000+

Although thats just my guestimate, i havent owned an SLR long enough to quote figures really!

Thanks dd. My 10D has about 4200 clicks on the clock so there should be plenty more life in the old dog yet.

hi, can someone explain what you mean by the term clicks?

thanks

shutter actuations, in other words how many shots the camera's taken. :)

ok cheers,

shutter actuations, in other words how many shots the camera's taken. :)

Is this a value that you can read from the camera through one of the menu option or is it a simple guestimate based on how many photos that you believe to have taken?

I don't know about other camera manufacturers, but the number of times the shutter has open and shut is embedded in each image on Nikon cameras. I assume other manufacturers will do something similar. :)

You can't readily access the shutter actuations for Canon cameras. It needs special software which is only available to service centre's
