hi there , i am interessted in learning what i term as clever photography, (water droplets in mid air) for example blackpool illuminations to look like solid neons, coloured filters on skylines to turn the backgrounds different colours, im sure it takes years to perfect, but wondered if i should be looking at a digital slr or a point and shoot
i must point out that i am a beginner, and just didnt want to buy a point and shoot to learn then realise i needed a slr as i learned more,
would you reccomend a photography class, or are books better
regards craig

each of the above require a different skill set....

water droplets is about trying to get a steady drip rate, quick shutter, timing etc

illuminations is about long shutters and time of day etc etc

skylines- just luck really... you can only take a pic of whats available to be seen, some you win some you lose- but theres a few styles of this.... long shutters, n.d filters can be added etc is the most popular i'd probably say....

if you want a really proper insight have a look at this.... http://tv.cse7.org/2009/fall/
one of the other members posted the link up recently and its interesting stuff to say the least

but at the end of the day you arent gonna get any better at photography unless you get out n about making mistakes and learning from them etc

Thanks Craig, as Terry says with the questions you asked all have different techniques some easier than other to perfect and you may have many failures, and many punch the air with delight YESSSS, you just gotta keep trying and dont be put off

That last ones a great image Dave

Thanks Dan I prefer the 1st myself, as you can see the signs and read the Madame Tussaud Id liked to have got closer but it would have mean being by the tram stop shelter and not much room for folk to pass by the tripod as you can see by the people stood at it
