As per title, I'm in gosport freezing my fingers off!!

You should try it 500+ miles further north. Only fingers? I bet you still have your 'nads' though.......

Nice. I'd have loved to have gone out tonight, but since I'm working I'm stuck in the office,,, and e lighting ruins any chance of sky shots really.

Hi Mark, thanks!

There wasn't that much light pollution around, but I just kept my exposure time to 30secs or less, put WB onto Tungsten (~3200k) and made a couple of tweaks in LR.

:)

Would I be right in saying that you set focus to infinity, with this type of shot you would be better focusing on the foreground. The stars are very small points of light and even if a tiny little bit out of focus will still look right where as the foreground out of focus will always look wrong

Whether or not the eye is taken to the tower or drawn from it, it, and the stars are what I wanted in focus. So I set the focus accordingly. Thanks..

But the thing is if the stars were a little OOF nobody would have noticed yet thing just look a little wrong with the foreground OOF

Or maybe stack 2 pictures, one for foreground one for infinity?

In that first shot, even if you focused on the foreground the boats will still look slightly out of focus due to the movement and slower shutter speeds.

I understand your point and that's fine. I still chose this shot the way I did. And besides, I wasn't asking for C&C here.....

I wasn't bitching. I also wasn't asking for feedback.
Just be happy that I am happy about how I took the shot, especially when I have said I achieved the result I wanted.

I won't bother posting next time if its so hard to have a discussion!!...

Interesting colours dubzter, where was this taken?

there is no need for that attitude :(

Cool.
I always have wanted to get the NLs in some of my own photos but didn't fancy travelling abroad. I didn't realise they were so prominent in Scotland too! Guess I'll have to have a break away sometime to capture them - although, I guess I'd still be going abroad!! :naughty::bonk:

Yeah would love to go to Iceland, Alaska, Canada, Norway to really experience them properly. Here is a timelapse that one of my friends shot last night.
