Hi there, I read somwhere about using ciggie papers to clean your lens glass and it was said to be a good way to go as it lifts off all the grub.

Im looking to see if anybody has heard this also and if so what way do you go about it? is there a special way you need to go about cleaning the glass.

As always thanks in advance for any advice.

I use a pack of cleaning wipes from jacobs which are basically giant rizla's like you mention, works fine for me.

Ok but do i need to wet them first or anything like that? Im just thinking that rubbing a dry paper onto glass seems strange?

I use a lenspen. They are brilliant. Invest in one and you won't regret it

The idea is to breathe on to the lens first so it mists up (much like you might do if you were cleaning a pair of glasses), then clean it with the rizla paper.

Do you use this cleaning method? if so does it work well?

I just use eclispe lens fluid and pecpads for a thorough clean and microfibre for general wipe round.

Specsavers glasses cloths for me. Just sweet talk the girl behind the counter and she'll usually give ya freebie:thumbs:

Never tried using ciggie papers for cleaning but they do make great makeshift diffusers for my flashes I've found.

Tommy.

tshirt?

there's a microfibre cloth in my bag for rear elements / worse dirt, but tbh, clean the front element of a lens once with a microfibre, bash the UV filter on it, and just rub off any dirt with your shirt...it's completely out of focus anyway...

I've used a cloth and compressed air, they do the job ok. Compressed air won't damage the lens, will it?

No, but it might leave propellant residue on the glass. A rocket blower is safer.

I use the cloth that came with my wife's new pair of glassess (she doesn't know I've "borrowed" it ), breath on the lens, wipe clean - perfect results

Microfibre cloth and a small bottle of lens fluid

works for me

TT

i use a small piece of fine sandpaper ( the same one i use to clean the sensor with ) might as well use that as a fagpaper because over time id have thought you'd get the same result .

:bang:Lens pen for me.... Fag papers are good..same as the lens papers you can buy.... For sensor no substitute for windowlene and a bit of dry rag!

How do they work?
Had a wee look, just wondering if they do damage over time with it working dry?

On one end is a brush to get rid of all the dust and other objects on the glass.

The other end is a carbon tip which you can use to get rid of all the fingerprints an grease. In my experience (about 2 years of use on the same lens) it dosent damage it at all.

You can also get them for screens, mobile phone cameras and sensors.
